Update: Lekan Shonde, Alleged Wife Killer to Remain in Prison for Two More Weeks
On Friday, 24th of June, 2016, Lekan Shonde, 51, the husband of late Ronke Shonde, whom (read here) he allegedly killed in a case of domestic violence, in Lagos state, appeared before an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court in the state, as his trial continues.
According to reports, Lekan who was arraigned on a one-count charge of murder had appeared before the court on May 20 and was remanded in prison custody after the case was adjourned to June 24 (today) for further hearing.
When the alleged wife killer appeared in court yesterday, the prosecutor, China Uwadione, informed the court that he had received a copy of the legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions, DPPs when the case was mentioned.

Responding to the prosecutor’s submission; I. B. Mohammed, counsel to the accused told the court that he was yet to be served his own copy of the advice and would like to apply for it.
Furthermore, the prosecutor stated that the offence contravenes Section 221 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011 which prescribes a death sentence for convicts.
Oluwayemisi Adelaja, the Chief Magistrate, ordered that Shonde should remain in prison custody and adjourned the case to July 8 for mention.
You will recall that Lekan Shonde was alleged to have murdered his wife, Ronke Shonde, 37, on May 5 at their residence on 3, Tiemo Street, Egbeda area of Lagos state.
