University Professor Who Helped Babysit Student’s Baby Speaks On Why He Did It

Earlier this week, some touching photos of a professor at the University of Alassane Ouattara, Bouaké, Côte d’Ivoire, was shared by a Twitter user, @adewryght where the professor , who teaches communications, was pictured helping a nursing mother babysit her crying baby during exams.

In an interview with BBC Afrique, the Ivory Coast professor Honore Kahi, said being a mother should not stop women from getting an education, adding that he offered to babysit the baby because he was crying and disturbing his mother from concentrating in the class.

He continues, saying women should not be discouraged by people’s perceptions of what they want to do.

Surprised at what the professor did, his students began to laugh and then took pictures of him and the baby on his back, and then began to upload them on social media and tagged him a hero.

He told the interviewer that they then realised that “this is a good father, this is a real man… [and] a role model”.

Kahi said: “What prevails here in Ivory Coast is… male chauvinism and then quoted an ancient philosopher.

“It is not because things are difficult that we do not dare. It is because we do not dare that they are difficult. In our environment we let ourselves be discouraged by others.”

He further explained that when he took the baby and tied him on his back he immediately stopped crying and fell asleep.

He also made a more shocking and touching revelation that he learned how to back a baby by observing how women carry their children.

“In fact, men are able to do certain things, and usually, it’s the way society sees men that prevent them from doing these things.”
