See How Students Were Flogged in Osun State for Failure to Meet Assignment Submission Deadline
According to reports circulating on social media, students of Osogbo Grammar School, Osun State, were physically tortured for failing to meet their assignment submission deadline, and arriving late at school.
The viral photo was posted on Instagram user @lautecholofofo and captioned:
”Corporal punishment is not new in schools. Teachers cane erring pupils without their parents raising their eyebrow. But the “inhuman treatment” of these students, pupil of Osogbo Grammar School who was flogged like a ram not wanting to go home days before the Eid-El-Fitri celebration and lying down on a bare floor simply because they couldn’t submit their assignments on time owing to the reason that they got late to school because of the now long distance they share with their school since the state government has changed their former destinations to although a larger venue but travel time constrained.
”This has provoked me on a debate on their punishment, on this Form of punishment.
Should Capital or Corporal punishment be abolished in the Nigeria Education system, of Course, this ugly scourge isn’t a feature in advance educational systems and of course we can open a channel where erring students can be punished without demeaning their humanity.
