20-Year-Old Heroic Dad Delivers Son By Roadside

Owen Reen, a 20-year-old from Count Kerry, Ireland, has been described as a heroic dad after he delivered his own baby at the side of a busy road, Mirror reports.

The young dad, according to the report, was able to successfully help his partner, Rebecca Cremin, deliver baby Jayden, five weeks prematurely when he followed close instructions from paramedics over the phone with a low battery.

The pair were on their way to Kerry University Hospital after his partner had told him she needed to get to the hospital as soon as possible.

But they did not get as far as the hospital, as her waters broke on the outskirts of Killarney, and the young man’s phone battery was almost gone.

He said, “Jayden was not due for another five weeks when Rebecca realised that we needed to get to the hospital quickly. She was getting severe labour pains.

“It was a bit of a frightening experience alright. What made it terrifying was that my phone had not been charged overnight. I just had a single bar left on the battery.”

He called his sister, Edel, who had given birth last year. She in turn called Kerry paramedics, who called the young father and helped him deliver the little tot.

Little Jayden had been born by the time paramedics reached the couple’s car.

Reen said, “When they contacted me, they advised me that I would not make it to KUH and it was better to stop and deliver the baby myself.

“The paramedic on the phone was fantastic and helped me to remain calm throughout. We are really so grateful for all his help during the delivery. It all happened so fast I really did not have time to panic.

“We left the house in Rathmore at 7 pm and Jayden arrived just 40 minutes later,” said the father, who described tying off his son’s umbilical cord as “the toughest thing I have ever had to do.”

He said, “But I also want to say that it was the greatest experience of my life. I’m just so thrilled that everything turned out so well. Jayden is getting fantastic care. We really want to thank everyone at KUH and all the paramedics for their help.”
