Evil! Gateman Murders 50-Year-Old Madam Over Salary Increment In VGC

The residents of Victoria Garden City (VGC), Lagos state, were thrown into mourning last weekend over the alleged stabbing of a 50-year-old businesswoman called Mabel Mang Okafor, to death by her guard following an argument over increment of salary from N20,000 to N30,000.

She was found dead in the pool of her own blood in her room at House J68B, Close 9, VGC, Lekki-Ajah.

According to a report by Vanguard, the deceased, who lived alone in her duplex had no domestic worker except the guard, from Niger Republic.

Trouble started after the gate man threatened to leave a mark on the woman for refusing to increase his salary. Unknown to the woman, he was planning to kill her. The guard, who resumed work some two months ago did the unthinkable by making true his threat.

According to a resident who gave his name simply as Okunola, Okafor was found lifeless by a man that claimed to have heard voices from the building, consequent upon which the police was called.

“Everyone suspects her private guard. This is because immediately the incident happened, the guard was nowhere to be found. Her phone was also missing. She lived alone.”

Another resident who did not want his name in print, narrated:

“Nobody knew that the woman was dead until last Friday. We learned that she was stabbed last Wednesday, but it was not until her church members visited on Friday that they found her decomposing body.

“The gate of the building was only bolted, but not locked when the church members came.

“One of them said they became apprehensive after several calls to her mobile telephone indicated that her line was switched off, prompting them to pay her a visit, only to be welcome with a stench.

“Her body was found on the floor of the sitting room downstairs, with a knife protruding from her stomach.

“After her death, some gate men from the suspected culprit’s ethnic group said he had boasted that he would leave an indelible mark on his madam, following argument over increase in his salary.

“They said he claimed he was being paid N20,000 but demanded for an increase of N10,000 but the woman refused. The fleeing gate man was quoted by some gate men here to have argued that he usually washed his madam’s car and also swept the compound.”

Goke, another resident added:

“Police have not been able to get the gate man since the incident occurred, neither have they been able to reach the one that brought him.

“In fact, the gate man went away with her phone. We have been warned several times to employ private guards from registered security companies, but some landlords here do not heed the advice.

“Had the fleeing gate man been employed from a registered company, it would have been easy for police to get him.

“How can one who owned a property worth about N300 million not be able to employ the services of a registered security agents, but chose to go for cheap labour?”

Lagos State Police command spokesman, Dolapo Badmus, confirmed the incident, adding that “at about 12a.m., upon information received at Ajah Police Division that one Mabel Mang Okafor, 50, was found dead in her room at House J68B, Close 9, VGC, Ajah, a team of detectives attached to the division visited, examined and photographed the scene.

The team discovered that the deceased was stabbed in the stomach by unknown person(s). The corpse has been deposited at a mortuary for autopsy.

However, effort is on to arrest the perpetrators of the act. The case is under discreet investigation.
