Shocking! See Why Husband Allegedly Cut Off Wife’s Nose In India
A husband in India, Sanjeev Rathore, 27, has allegedly scarred his wife, Kamlesh Rathore, 25, for life, after cutting off her nose over her family’s inability to pay him her dowry according to Indian custom, after eight years of marriage.
DailyMail reports Kamlesh from Shahjahanpur, in Uttar Pradesh, northern India, said her husband had been demanding a dowry of Rs 50,000 (£550) since they got married. She revealed:
‘He harassed me every day for the dowry. He was constantly demanding Rs 50,000.
I repeatedly told him that my father is very poor and he cannot afford such an amount but he did not listen and used to threaten me that he’ll chop off my nose.
He has beaten me for years. He’s used belts, slippers, sticks and has always tortured me. He used to accuse me of working as a prostitute and threaten to sell me. He was always drunk.
‘During our eight years of marriage he was very harsh with me.’
Kamlesh, who has a 6-year-old daughter, added that she was cooking dinner on September 14 when Sanjeev started his tantrums over the dowry again. She revealed her in-laws subsequently grabbed her from behind suddenly and held her down as her husband allegedly chopped off her nose.
‘They all grabbed me tightly. I could not move. And then out of nowhere I saw a knife and he chopped off my nose,’ she said.
Her husband and in-laws then reportedly fled the scene, as Sanjeey told Kamlesh, ‘You’ll now be like this forever’.
She was later rushed to the hospital by her parents who lived nearby; she had called them as soon as her attackers fled, but unfortunately, doctors could not re-attach the nose as Sanjeev had taken it with him.
Speaking on her sister’s ordeal, her older brother, Sachin, 26, said, ‘My sister’s husband has been very cruel. He has given her a terrible life and now this. He even took her nose and gifted it to the gods at his temple. He’s a sick man.’
He added that the family cannot afford any future surgery to fix his sister’s nose.
Meanwhile, the police are on the trail the suspects – Kamlesh’s husband, mother-in-law, father-in-law, sister-in-law and brother-in-law, who are all still on the run.
