Mum Shares Excitement As Conjoined Twins Are Successfully Separated After 16-Hour Surgery
Twins, Jodan and Anias were born conjoined at the head and stayed that way for 13 months until their recent 16-hour surgery.
According to Mirror UK, doctors had given their parents, Nicole McDonald and Christian the option of aborting the babies to avoid looming complications. However, Nicole was determined to give the boys a chance at life.
She wrote on her GoFundMe page, through which she managed to raise more than $150,000 for the twins medical care:
“I had heard their heart beats…they spent their life listening to mine. It was my job as their mother to give them life and I decided that I would give everything up, if need be, to do so.”
Thankfully, after a 16-hour surgery at the Montefiore Medical Center in New York which became so complicated it was almost abandoned, Jadon and Anias have been successfully separated. They however still have to undergo months of critical care.
Sharing her excitement online, their mum wrote:
“Finally reunited. How surreal. I now realize that I always saw you as separate because seeing you like this is really nothing different to me.
When I stand at your bedside, Jadon, it’s almost as if Anias is still there.
Anias, when I leaned over you I protected my hair from Jadon. But the view is still the same. This is how I always saw you. I love you so much.”
