9 Ways To Naturally Relieve Constipation In Children
For a child, going to the loo shouldn’t be so hard, but when they over do it on the sweets or overeat because they simply cannot seem to have enough of mummies delicious dishes, they often find themselves sitting on the toilet for a while waiting to let go.
Thankfully there are ways that you can help your child overcome this situation without resorting to the doctor or medication all the time. Please remember it is always advisable to seek the opinion of a medical expert in some extreme cases or as your mommy or daddy instincts nudge you.
- Water
Constipation is just some poo that is stuck in your childs rectum because the poo, is dehydrated or lacks enough fluid to flow out normally. Water is our go to guide here, water doesnt neceerilly take much to be digested, it would help loosen and pass out the poo without caauising too much stress. The key is to make sure that your chilld is always hydrated.
- Fruit Juices (Orange juice with the pulp, Apple juice, Prune juice, Paw paw)
As wonderful as fruits taste, there natural tendencies to cure a lot of “illnesses” is a gift from God. There are some fruits that are high and rich and rich in a water and fiber content. This helps to clean the intestine walls and retain water in your poo, which makes it an easier process fro your child.
- Letting Go
Some children are shy of going number 2 in places that they are’t comfortable with. Most likely places that aren’t home. They might end up holding in their poo at school, a party(when they have eaten and drank), a friends house e.t.c. Encourage your child to go when they need to go as holding in their poo might be teaching their system how to get used to hold in their poo.
- High Fibre Foods(Beans, Apples, Lentiles, Potatoes:no fries)
Fiber acts like a sponge. It draws water from its surroundings, making it swell, which softens stool and adds bulk to it, which in turn helps it pass. There are also some vegetables like pumpkin leaf (ugwu), cabbage etc. which help to prevent and give relief to constipation because they are rich in fiber. Be sure to make your child eat the fruits with the peel.
- Oil(fish oil, Castor oil, Coconut oil, Olive oil)
Healthy oils especially like olive oil and coconut oil, are not only healthy fats, but helps stimulate your digestive system, which helps to get things moving through your colon, and taken regularly it can prevent constipation as well. One doesn’t have to even wait for your child to get constipated. You can include it into their diet once a week or two weeks depending on your child’s system.
- Yogurt
Yogurt, especially the unrefined type is healthy bacteria that the body needs to function or operate with. The stress of being constipated, often keeps the good bacteria at bay and your body is fighting to use what little is left of it. Giving your child a cup of yogurt for breakfast, during the day, as a snack until you notice the normal type of bowel movement in your child is very advisable.
- Tummy Massage
Helping your child to gently massage their tummy can soothe a restless tummy.
- A Warm Bath
Giving the child a warm bath also can just do the magic as this relaxes both the nerves outside and inside.
- Bicycle Leg
This is when lay your child down and move their legs like they are riding a bicycle to help them to stimulate their tummy region and also bowel movements.
