“At first it broke me down” – Justin Timberlake Opens Up about Fatherhood
Justin Timberlake may be enjoying life as a successful singer and actor, however; the singer admits fatherhood was initially a struggle.
In a recent interview with Hollywood Reporter, the proud father revealed that he has struggled with finding a balance with his new role as a parent. He said:
“At first, it broke me down. Those first eight months felt like those old ‘Ed Sullivan’ shows where people are balancing spinning plates on poles except if you drop one, they die.”
The singer also admits that since the birth of his son, he has been remembering a lot of his childhood struggles saying:
“You go through your life with your own traumas, big and small, and think it’s not that bad. I have a lot to be thankful for, my parents did the best they could.
But then you have a child of your own and suddenly it opens all the floodgates, and you’re like, No, no, no! That childhood trauma really did f— me up”
Timberlake, wrote his latest song “Can’t Stop the Feeling” as a gift to his son. The song ended up been nominated for an Oscar and has become his first No. 1 single in 10 years.
“I’d never have written it if it weren’t for him. Watching him jump around to ‘Can’t Stop the Feeling!’ starting to learn words because of that song, it’s the best thing in the world,” he says.
If you are expecting Timberlake’s son to follow in his footsteps, well the singer has an answer:
“Would I want my child to follow my path? You know, I haven’t been able to answer that question in my mind. If he wanted it bad enough, I suppose I could teach him a lot about what not to do.”
Timberlake, married actress Jessica Biel, in 2012 and they welcomed their son Silas Randall, in April 2015.
