Court Sentences Man to Death by Hanging for Killing his Wife with Acid | See Shocking Details
Yesterday, 23rd of February, a Lagos High Court in Ikeja sentenced a man called Sulaiman Olalekan, to death by hanging for the murder of his wife, Chika Egbo, on November 20, 2012 because he bathed her with acid.
Olalekan, a graduate of Mechanical Engineering from the University of Ibadan, had allegedly accused the deceased of going back to prostitution against his advice.
According to PM News, the convict reportedly met his wife at a hotel in the Ijeshatedo area of Lagos State, from where they started a relationship that resulted in marriage. The court heard that after the marriage, the husband bought her a second-hand Volkswagen bus and also paid her school fees at the Enugu College of Education.
But Chika reportedly reneged on her commitment to the relationship by returning to prostitution, which caused Olalekan to procure acid from a battery charger in the Ikotun area of the state.
He was said to have deceitfully invited her to visit his mother on the said day, an opportunity he used to pour the acid on her. The victim was admitted at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) for emergency medical treatment, where she eventually died.
Following her death, the Lagos State government, through the state’s Ministry of Justice, took over the prosecution of the case and filed necessary processes in court.
The trial judge, Justice Lawal Akapo, in arriving at his judgment, said he believed that the murder of Chika by Olalekan was premeditated.
He, therefore, convicted him for the offence and sentenced him to death by hanging accordingly. He had a four-year-old daughter with the deceased.
The State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Adeniji Kazeem, who was the lead prosecuting Counsel, in his reaction to the judgment, thanked the Court for a well-considered punishment.
”Today’s judgment is a victory in our fight against domestic violence and a victory for domestic violence victims,” he said.

Gosh…..I just feel bad for the poor little girl, no father no mother, may God see her through.
This is a very good judgment. If he couldn’t cope with her prostitution why didn’t he just leave her alone? He could have just moved on but no instead he had to kill her. This is one time I have faith in the Nigerian judicial system. I hope this serves as a deterrent to other men planning to do Same to women. May her soul RIP. Amen.
hmmm
I feel for the daughter
Evil never solves anything
