Man Douses Daughters with Petrol for this Unbelievable Reason
Edward John Herbert, has been arraigned before the Supreme Court of Western Australia for dousing his daughters with petrol and setting her on fire during a fit of rage.
He also doused his older daughter, 7, with petrol, who reportedly is autistic, but she was not set on fire. The girl, who was aged three at the time, suffered severe and life-threatening burns to 13% of her body and was left with permanent scars.
A neighbor heard screams and ran over to the scene of the incident, and upon finding out what happened, he covered the younger girl with a blanket to extinguish the flames, the court heard.
Edward pleaded not guilty to five charges including, attempting to kill his daughters, on account of being unsound in mind. But he admitted to the court that he intended to kill the girls. Mirror reports that the father of three had spent the day smoking weed and drinking heavily before the incident occurred at the family’s home in the Perth, Australia in August 2015. The court also heard that Edward chased his wife with a knife and threatened to blow up the house before setting his daughter on fire. She tried to calm him, but he told her ‘the werewolf is coming, that’s it, bitch, I am going to kill you‘.
The neighbor who ran to the girl’s aid, Daniel McMillan, told court that he went into the home and found Herbert pacing in the kitchen and drinking a beer, he asked him why he did that, and Edward replied his daughter was “too beautiful.” Daniel said the enraged father threw bottles at him and lunged at him with a knife, but he was able to disarm him and hit him over the head with a fire extinguisher.
The court was told that Edward was a heavy weed user and drinker. In the days before the attack, he had doubled his smoking and was drinking almost an entire carton of beer every day. Mirror also reports that at the time of this report, the trial was still ongoing.
