Lanre Gentry Reportedly Remanded in Prison for Failing to Meet Bail Conditions

According to various news reports, Lanre Gentry, estranged husband of Nollywood actress, Mercy Aigbe is currently remanded at the Ikoyi Prisons after failing to meet his bail conditions. The businessman was made to stand before a Magistrate’s court sitting in Ogba, on a three-count charge offence bordering on breach of public peace, assault and causing grievous bodily harm to his wife.

Police prosecutor, Inspector N. Peter, informed the court that the accused constantly abused his wife physically. In the last incident, which sparked a major outcry on social media, he was said to have hit her on the head, and nose which caused her to bleed immensely. The offence was contrary to and punishable under sections 157 (f), 168 (a) and 171 of the Criminal Law No II, Vol. 44 Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria 2011. Lanre however pleaded not guilty to all 3 charges.

Mrs. O. Aje-Afunwa, who was the presiding magistrate, granted him bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum. Both sureties must show proof of tax payment and own a verifiable house in Lagos with title documents. He will remain in police custody until he can perfect the bail conditions.
