Dear MIMsters: Was my Hubby and I Wrong to Say No to a Friend?
This is the issue. A friend of my hubby who eventually became a mutual friend of ours after our wedding requested to come stay with us for 3 weeks because he had something to do in the city we reside in, we didn’t just say no without considering all these.
As a newly married couple, we live in a chamber and a hall self contained apartment, so no doubt he’ll have to use the hall if we agreed to his request.
Our job location demand we leave very early in the morning latest by 6 a.m. and return at 8 p.m. Going by this schedule means leaving him all alone in the house everyday. Therefore no one will be available to take care of him as per feeding and in case he needs something. The entry to our bedroom is also built in a way that it isn’t so secured even when locked.
Upon deliberations with hubby, we couldn’t accept his request to come stay for the period. Mothers in the house, since then, he and the wife have been kind of cold towards us. They have stopped picking my hubby’s calls even during celebrations. This man met me in town last week and from the way he spoke to me when I called him, you could tell that he strongly holds a grudge against us. He told me that he doesn’t intend picking my hubby’s calls nor be friends with him because we didn’t help him when he needed help. Did my hubby and I do wrong by refusing to let into our home a male friend, a few months after our wedding?
Please put yourselves in our shoes, considering our situation, were we wrong in refusing to let him come and stay? I really feel bad about his utterances.
Then give them the space they have created. You can’t please others and displease yourself nah. If he cannot understand, then let him be. Who goes to stay with newly weds for 3 weeks?
Maintain your lane, not everyone will be pleased with your lifestyle or your decisions.
You’ve made yur point clear.i see no reason why that should be an issue. Friend for that matter.abeegi
