IK Ogbonna Responds to Backlash Over Infidelity Views: ”A married man having sex outside marriage is not cheating” (VIDEO)
IK Ogbonna‘s controversial views on the definition of cheating in marriage doesn’t seem to be going down well with Nigerians, hence the backlash.
IK stated in a video interview that a married man who sleeps with another woman without being emotionally attached isn’t cheating but breaking marital vows (read here).
He insisted that casual sex isn’t what cheating is all about.
The Nollywood actor who has received heavy backlash since the video went viral today has taken to his Instagram page to justify what he said.
He wrote;
So normally I’d see a post of myself and let it slide, but in this case I’d address it because it was represented in a way and manner that speaks contrary to everything I represent.
From my little understanding cheating (in general) is when someone acts dishonestly or unfairly in order to gain an advantage, especially in a game or examination or even a real life situation.
IF YOU GOT TO HEAR THE FULL INTERVIEW (not only 20 sec of it) you would understand that I am NOT in support of men or women having SEX with other people aside the one the call their own.
Firstly, sex with anyone that’s not your wife or husband a sin against God. However, I was trying to say that Breaking a vow is worse than an act we would refer to as cheating (just casual sex), and when I say VOW I refer to a spiritual & emotional nut between two people.
The truth is, Sex in our age and time has been reduced to a recreational activity, and so sorry to say, has made it loose its value in so many ways because it’s easy to find and to get.
As much as possible I preach that we should build self control and focus on one person but when we look at things from the rear view of reality having sex without being emotionally attached to the person can slide as a casual event (still 100% wrong) and still means you disrespected your partner (in)directly, you hurt his/hers feelings and worst of all: break the trust that y’all were building for so long.
But in this case I was referring to people that invest emotions and feeling in some other person whilst their spouse falls into the disadvantage (whether you are having sex or not).
In this case the other person (your partner) suffers because now you have to share your time, finance, and emotions that should be the sole rights of that one person you choose to build your life with.
Bottom line, loyalty is a beautiful thing. Hope we understand each other better now? Moving forward.”

Have you ever cheated on your wife?
For me, I looked for a woman that had everything that I wanted. From beauty to brains, companionship and friendship.
I’m more about building my family, life and building a future both for my internal/external family. I really don’t have the time (to cheat) as i’m always working and whatever time left is spent with family.
On whether he cooks for his wife, IK said;
Yes, I love cooking, The beauty of cooking is when you see somebody enjoying your food. The beauty for me is when I see the person I love enjoying my meal.
She’s actually smiling because of the meal I cooked for her. I try to do everything and anything to make her happy and If cooking is one of them…. She cooks for me, I cook for her. It’s just beautiful as far as I’m concerned.

On why he thinks men cheat, IK said;
People say it is in every man’s DNA but I don’t think so. It’s a mindset. If you hang around people that cheat, you would probably become a cheater, and vice versa. I don’t think every man cheats.
It’s a spiritual thing for some. Some Men cheat because they want to cheat. Same with women, it’s a personal decision.
