‘Marriage is not my crowning glory’- Kemi Adetiba Reflects on Her Life as She Approaches 38
There have been many conversations surrounding marriage and if it should be considered an achievement in the life of a woman, and some like famous writer and feminist Chimamanda have disagreed with that notion. Chimamanda famously said;
“Never speak of marriage as an achievement. Find ways to make clear to her that marriage is not an achievement, nor is it what she should aspire to. A marriage can be happy or unhappy, but it is not an achievement.”

Well, popular Nigerian filmmaker Kemi Adetiba has shared her thoughts on this same topic via her Instagram page today. Read below:
‘I will be 38 in just over a month and a half, and while I would LOVE to be married (to my God-chosen companion, and best friend) and have child(ren), I am very comfortable with the knowledge that my life is just as valid, and beautiful, and happy, and successful, if for some reason that never comes to pass.

‘Marriage and kids is not my “crowning glory”… It’s another BEAUTIFUL step in life I would love to take. I’d also love to make (and keep) a billion dollars in my lifetime, but I won’t be any less of a woman or Kemi Adetiba if that didn’t come to pass either.
‘No… I’m not comparing the two. I’m just highlighting it doesn’t diminish a (Wo)man’s -Kemi Adetiba’s – worth if it never happens.

Nail on the head, marriage is not an achievement, and women should stop allowing marriage define them.
Marriage is not an achievement like she said, it’s just another beautiful step in a woman’s life. Been married or not married should not define a woman.
