Wife of Late Taraba Lawmaker Abdulmumini Dame Sent Packing for These Reasons

Mrs Dame Rukkayyat is facing a big extended family challenge from her late husband’s family members.

Late Taraba lawmaker, Abdulmumini Dame’s widow was not allowed to mourn her late husband in their residence in Jalingo, Taraba State, weeks after the burial. According to reports, her husband’s family members sent her packing from their house because she couldn’t bear a child for the late lawmaker on the account that the late lawmaker did not marry her, Premium Times. Reports.

”As you can see I’m in Takaba (for the 40 days mourning period) but they didn’t allow me to observe it in this house and kept insulting threatening me,” she said.

Ruquayyat further said she married her husband when he coverted to Islam and he remained a Muslim until his death.

He died in Yola at FMC and got the usual Muslim bath rites.

”They had never said he was not a Muslim until his death and surprisingly Dennis and other uncles were among those who attended the wedding Fatiha in my father’s house in Yola barely nine years ago.

After the usual muslim bath rite, together with his mother and brother, we took the corpse to Jalingo, then the crisis started by his younger brother, a situation that forced me to seek redress in court.

I ran to an Upper Area Court in Jalingo on the 30th of last month to seek redress and the court gave an order that we (all parties involved) shall maintain status quo and his body should not be buried. The corpse was deposited at a morgue.”

It is not new in this part of the world where family members try to reap where they did not sow and even go as far as accusing the wife of the deceased of murder.

”I was threatened and bullied for bringing bad luck to the family and was eventually thrown out of the house.

A proper investigation must be done to determine if Mrs Rukkayya is a legitimate wife of late Abdulmumini dame. And if she happens to be his legitimate wife then justice should be carried out on those false accusers.  Even if she is not a legitimate wife, she should be at least compensated for being a devoted helping mate for 9 years.
