UPDATE: Ex President Obasanjo’s Son, Olujonwo, Speaks From Hiding: ”My dad supports my decision”
Over the weekend, wife of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Taiwo Obasanjo, alleged in an interview with the Sun that her 34-year-old son, Olujonwo, is missing.
Taiwo in the interview alleged that Olujonwo had been missing since November last year.
According to Mrs Obasanjo, her son was subject to physical abuse by his wife abandoned his matrimonial home 7 months after his wedding to Tolulope Adebutu and is missing. She wrote….
”I don’t know whether the marriage has broken down or not because the young man lives with his father in Abeokuta while I live in Lagos.
So, I think you should direct that question to my son’s father and his wife. I am asking them both where my son is? That was why I went to the police to make reports last year.
I saw my son once before the wedding when he came to tell me that, ‘Mummy I am going ahead whether you support me or not’.
He defied my orders and that was why I didn’t attend the wedding. Everyone said they were above the almighty God who gave the message and I am nothing because they are the ones controlling things.”
However, in a statement Olujonwo released to the press yesterday, he said he is neither missing nor lost. According to him, he took the decision to go into seclusion.
According to Olujonwo who countered his mother’s allegation against his wife, he personally took the decision to go into seclusion, and that his father supported his decision.
The statement in part reads;
“At my age, I am over 34 years, and it is ridiculous to the extreme that my mother would ask the police to look for me. I am well, alive and kicking and the police need not look for me.
For peace in my life, I have decided to keep away from my mother for now. She should not make me part of her seeking media attention.
My siblings and others in my family who care about me without negative influence and abhorrent action know my whereabouts and we keep interacting and communicating.
My father who has supported me and my decisions in every aspect of my life, has been in constant communication with me and he is aware that I am hale and hearty. This is my personal and deliberate decision,” Olujowon said.
On his marriage controversy, Olujonwo stressed that he was old enough to marry and manage his marital life “including the decision on what to do with it, if the need ever arises”.
“I don’t want anybody to shed crocodile tears because of me nor do I need undue publicity from anybody,” he added.
Meanwhile, Olujonwo did not confirm or deny the allegations that his 7 month old marriage to Tolulope, the daughter of billionaire businessman, Chief Kessington Adebutu, aka ‘Baba Ijebu’, was having problem.
You will recall that Mrs Obasanjo had dragged her son and his dad to court last year on grounds that his proposed wedding to Tolulope must not hold in May because some prophet had warned her that Olujonwo must not have an elaborate wedding and also that his wedding must not hold before his birthday which was in June, 2017 (read here).
But despite her objection, the wedding went ahead in her absence last year, and it was the talk of the town.
