Michelle Obama’s Motivational Speech is a Must Read: ”People told us we weren’t supposed to be in the White House”
Michelle Obama, former US First Lady, was at Temple University, Philadelphia, on Wednesday for the National College Signing Day, and she gave the over 8,000 teenagers about to go off to college, a few words of wisdom they will remember for years to come.
In her speech, the 54-year-old intelligent mother of two encouraged students to speak out if they find themselves struggling during what could undoubtedly be an anxious time, Huffington Post reports. Obama told the high school students attending the 2018 College Signing Day at Temple University in Philadelphia:
”Oh my goodness, what a crowd. I’m so happy to be here. Are you guys excited? We need you all to be successful. We love you so much, and we expect high things from you.
I’m not one of the doubters. I know that you have what it takes to succeed.
There are all these people out there telling you what you can’t do. I am so proud of you all. You did just what I did. You ignored the haters.
No one gets through college on their own. I know you have everything it takes to succeed.”
Wearing a denim Alexander McQueen jacket, black skinny jeans, a black tee and strappy sandals, and rocking her signature curly lob with bangs, Mrs Obama lightheartedly referred to herself as the “forever first lady” during the rousing speech.
“I know that you are me, and if I can be standing here as your forever first lady, then you can do anything you put your mind to,” she added.
”I didn’t know if I was smart enough. I thought maybe I’m not good enough. Maybe I can’t keep up.
There were a lot of people who told us that we weren’t supposed to be in the White House, that we couldn’t handle the pressure, that we weren’t ready,” she continued.
“So I’m telling you, they will doubt you today and they will doubt you for the rest of your life…I’m not one of the doubters. I know that you have what it takes to succeed.”
