Lee passed away in her home in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on November 22, and though the cause of death was not revealed, she has been laid to rest at a private funeral.
Lee, born on May 2, 1935; had four children though she is survived by only two of them- Oprah and Patricia Amanda Faye Lee –her daughter whom she gave up for adoption and later reconnected with. Her son, Jeffrey Lee had died in 1989, and another daughter, Patricia Lee Lloyd had also died in 2003.
Lee had Oprah at the age of 14 in Kosciusko, Mississippi, in 1954, shortly after meeting Oprah’s father, Vernon Winfrey. She then moved to Milwaukee to become a maid, leaving Oprah to be raised by her grandmother until she moved to Wisconsin after she turned 6.
She worked as a hospital dietician and retired sometime in the ’90s. She lived in Milwaukee until her death on November 22, 2018.
May her soul rest in peace!
