ACP Abayomi Shogunle, Justifies The Arrest Of 70 Women Clubbing In Abuja, Says Prostitution Is Both A Crime And Sin
There is public outrage currently ongoing against the Nigerian Police for the invasion of night clubs in Abuja on Saturday night and a subsequent arrest of over 70 women who were thereafter tagged prostitutes. But it is not exactly the arrest that has caused outrage, it is the fact that the arrests were lopsided and subsequent reports that the arrested women are being sexually violated while held.
The outcry on Twitter is that there were men at the clubs, why were they ignored or not termed prostitutes and arrested as a result? Some of the users on the app alleged violent sexual crime on the women since their arrests, but police officer, ACP Abayomi Shogunle, has called the bluff of the social media protesters.
The officer tweeted his reaction to the outburst from Nigerians and told them to stop making noise as prostitution is not only a crime but a sin against the two main religions.
His tweet has been deemed insensitive and people are asking if there are no male prostitutes or at least men who patronise the clubbing women arrested as sexual workers.
Read what the officer wrote below:
Those making noise on the clampdown on prostitutes in
#Abuja;•Prostitution is a crime under the law
•P is a sin under the 2 main religions of FCT residents
•Medicine says P is spreading HIV & STD
•P is lifeline of violent criminals
•P don’t pay tax
• culture frowns at P.
