“I’ll say it again, Nigerian men don’t respect women”- Rapper Ycee
Nigerian singer, rapper and songwriter, Oludemilade Martin Alejo, professionally known as Ycee, took to his Twitter handle to address what he believes to be a common problem with Nigerian men- respecting women.
The rapper who is known to despite his showbiz persona lend his voice to social discourses every now and then, had tweeted less than a year ago, that:
“A large percentage of Nigerian men don’t respect women”
Today, he shared the same post to reiterate the message which he first shared in June, last year. He shared the post again and tweeted:
Said it before I’ll say it again
Expectedly, his position did not go down well with many men on the app. Some said women must earn respect while others argued that women can’t be respected just because of their gender, or that Nigerian women equally do not give men enough respect.
One user, @xamani_xo said:
“Well, they shouldn’t be respected because of their gender… Respect is something that is earned..”
Another male user on the app, @grey_smoov, tweeted in a response that he has now deleted that, gender equality or respecting women won’t stop him from slapping back a woman who slaps him first. To which Ycee responded thus:
I hate when y’all say this shit. Gender equality isn’t about slap me I slap you back
You sound like you’re just looking for an excuse to abuse women with this logic.
Unlearn and educate yourself.
