Ekiti First Lady, Bisi Fayemi Makes A Firm Case For Pregnant Girls Who Are Expelled From School While The Boys Who Got Them Pregnant Continue

It has become a normal practice to expel pregnant schoolgirls while the boys responsible for the pregnancy are left to continue their education.

However, the First lady of Ekiti state, Bisi Fayemi during a meeting in Ado-Ekiti with wives of Coordinating Directors and Community Development Officers of the 16 Local Government Councils in the state, expressed her disagreement with the practice. The governor’s wife described it as “discriminatory.”

According to Mrs Fayemi, expelling a pregnant schoolgirls is wrong as all girls have the right to education, regardless of their pregnancy, marital or motherhood status.

She went on to say that pregnant girls face all kinds of punishments, including discriminating practices that deny them their right to education.

Mrs Fayemi expressed readiness of the state government to implement relevant laws, including the Child Rights Act, Gender Equality and other laws, to protect the interest of children.

She added that a sensitizattion campaign to increase awareness on the importance of protecting the rights of children, especially the girl child, will hold in the state in the coming month.

The State Commissioner for Women Affairs, Mrs Moji Fafure, solicited the support of women in the state for the Fayemi-led administration to fully achieve its goals for women and children.

Mrs Fayemi is known for fighting for the rights of children, women and the girl-child. Just a few days ago, Mrs. Fayemi shared her near-rape experience in the light of the case involving Busola Dakolo, mom-of-three who alleged that COZA senior pastor, Biodun Fatoyinbo raped her when she was a teenager.

Mrs Fayemi who opened up in an article shared online said she is appalled by the number of women who have come out to shame and condemn the wife of the singer for daring to open up about her bitter experience.

She is also of the opinion that the culture of shaming rape victims and forcing them to silence their pain by parents, family members, guardians, and close friends must stop in Nigeria.

She commended Busola and her husband Timi for their bravery (read the story Here). Pastor Biodun has since stepped down as the senior pastor of COZA. Busola on her part has reported the case to the police.
