Mary Njoku Weighs Into Yul Edochie And May’s Marital Drama: ‘If A Marriage Ends, Change Of Name Should Be…’
Movie producer, Mary Njoku has indirectly weighed into the marital drama between her colleague, Yul Edochie and his estranged first wife, May.
A few days back, Yul had publicly dragged his estranged wife, asking her to drop his surname and return the bride price he paid to marry her.
Now reacting to it, Mary stated that whenever a marriage ends, it should be optional for women to change their names.
According to the Nollywood actress, a woman cannot build a name over the years only for her to be asked to remove it simply because her husband is no longer interested in their union.
The married mother of three further argued that a mother shouldn’t be compelled to have a different name from her underaged children except she is allowed to change their names.
She wrote:
“If marriage ends, change of name should be optional Biko. Someone cannot build a Name for many years and he asked to change it just because Oga no wan do again.
A mother shouldn’t be compelled to have a different name from her underaged kids. Except she is allowed to change their names too.
Besides, some wives have been responsible for putting their surnames on the map. Asking them to drop it is like stealing her copyright. Except she wants to.”
Taking to her comment section, many sides with her as they listed out celebrities who still retain their husband’s surnames even after the end of their union… celebrities like Larsa Pippen, Kris Jenner, Fathia Balogun and co.
