Singer Reminisce Reveals Why His Children Will Never Follow His Career Path
Nigerian rapper, Reminisce has stated that his children will not pursue a career in music.
He stated this during a recent interview on Pulse On The Record alongside fellow rapper Vector the Viper.
According to him, the reason is because of the unpredictable nature of the music industry. He said:
âNo, I donât want my children to do music, and I donât think they should. Iâm not speaking as an African parent; Iâm speaking from my experience.â
Emphasizing the unpredictable nature of the industry, the father-of-two added,
âThe thing is, music is crazy. You can be the most talented person and end up with nothing; itâs like football. I have friends whom I used to play football with, and some of them ended up having professional deals, and I have people who are 43 like me and are still hoping to get something.â
He emphasized that while he would support his childrenâs ambitions if they chose music, heâd insist on education as a priority. He explained further:
âIt might never happen, and so what I would say is, âFine, get yourself a basic education first that you can pursue.â So if it ends up coming, fine, and if it doesnât, fine. But to say that I start pushing them tonight from the onset, no, because itâs really tough.
Its crazy so I would prefer to put you on the right path but the primary thing, the education, get that first. If you want to pursue it, I would support you.
But music at as a first choice? No. It is rough and difficult; it is less than 5% of people that make these things.â
Speaking on the importance of a âbackup plan,â likening the industry to a high-stakes lottery, Reminisce added,
âFor every Ronaldo you see, there are 9000 people who didnât make it. Hey, the basics are done first to have something to fall back on in case it doesnât work out.
Iâm not going to convince any child to say itâd work out for them because it worked out for me. It may never happen.â
