Update: Lagos State Government Shuts Down Lagos School Over Toddler’s Death, Begins Probe

The Lagos State Government has shut down Smiley Kids Montessori, in Sangotedo, Lagos State, where a two-year-old girl died following a swimming pool incident.

We had earlier reported that Rapheala Ogbodo, mother of the deceased, had on January 15, gone on social media to demand answers over her baby girl who was alleged to have drowned in the school’s swimming pool.

Ogbodo explained that her daughter went to school healthy but did not return alive. She added that she was told her daughter drowned.

However, she alleges that she has discovered the child was electrocuted but they put her dead body in the pool to make it look like drowning.

The grieving mother shared a picture of the pool with a high barricade to keep children away and she asked how a two-year-old could have climbed the barricade.

She called on the Lagos State Government to investigate and help her get justice.

Following her outcry, the Lagos State Safety Commission said its officials, the Office of Education Quality Assurance, and the Ministry of Education visited the accident scene “to conduct a preliminary investigation and ascertain the root cause of the unfortunate incident.

“While the school is presently under lock pending further investigation, the State Government extends its deepest condolences to the family of the victim and expresses its commitment to preventing future occurrences,”
