SAD: How Married Man Poisoned Pregnant Girlfriend in Imo

A 39-year-old married man from the Ezeakam Eziudo community in Ezinihitte Mbaise Local Government Area of Imo State, Chamberlin Ojoko, allegedly poisoned his pregnant girlfriend, Chinonye Ella, 25, with a local abortion concoc­tion and buried her in a shallow grave. He then returned to his unsuspecting pregnant wife in Port Harcourt.

According to TheSun, Ojoko allegedly borrowed a shovel from his brother, Pastor Sopuruchi, and buried Chinonye’s corpse in a shallow grave he dug at the back of an uncom­pleted building owned by one of his kinsmen, Dr Maduakolam Ukaegbu.

Commenting on the incident, Imo State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Taiwo Lakanu, said Ojoko and Chinonye started an affair after meeting in a public transit in Imo in December 2014. Ojoko, who resided in Port Harcourt, would regularly invite Chinonye, who lived in Umahia, to Owerri, where they often lodged in a hotel. Their smooth relationship, however, turned sour when Chinonye broke news that she was pregnant. Ojoko did not want the baby and subsequently convinced her that they should have it aborted.

The police boss added that he took Chi­nonye to an uncompleted building at his native village, Ezeakam Eziudo, where he administered the local abortion concoction which led to her death.

Ojoko, who is now in police custody, said:

“On July 20, 2015, I took my girlfriend to an uncom­pleted building around 6:30pm. My girlfriend took the herbal medicine, but later she started writhing in pain. Then she died. I ran to my house and took a shovel; I carried her body to the side of the building. I dug the ground and buried her in a shallow grave.”

Unknown to him, a little girl had seen him carrying out and burying Chinonye in the shallow grave. She later spilled the beans to the owner of the building who alerted the police. Ojoko was subsequently arrested in Port-Harcourt.

The police boss said they are still trying to locate relatives of the deceased as her phone, which could have offered some help, was thrown away by the suspect after executing the crime. He added that the suspect will soon be charged to court when ongoing investigations are concluded.
