6 Things You Probably Didn’t Know About Celine Dion’s Marriage

“My Heart Will Go On” sensation, Celine Dion is undeniable everybody’s favorite Pop artist. You simply cannot hear her smooth sultry voice and not move with her rhythm. As popular as she is, here are 6 things that may not know about Celine Dions marriage to her husband, René Angélil:

1) Celine Dion’s met her husband when she was just 12 years old. Her family had sent a recording of her first song, “Ce n’était qu’un rêve” (“It Was Only But a Dream”), to Angélil, who was a successful producer in Canada. After hearing the recording, Angélil brought Dion in to sing for him in person. The rest, of course, is history.

2) They waited 5 years before going public with their relationship. Her husband, Rene, was very self conscious about the relationship because of there obvious age differences but Celine pushed for the relationship to go public because, in her words, “When you’re in love, you want to scream it to the world”.

3) Her mother was against the marriage. In a report by Access Hollywood, Celine shared that her mother tried all she could to discourage her from falling in love with Rene and eventually marrying him because of his already failed attempts at marriage and previous children from past relationships.

4) According to Dion’s official website, the silk gown that Dion wore—which was designed by Mirella and Steve Gentile—took over 1,000 hours to make, and featured a massive train that was 20 feet long.

5) The singer opens up to the fact that she actually didn’t want to sing or record “My Heart Will Go On”, Which is um-arguably her most popular song, but was encouraged by her husband who convinced her to do a demo first and see how it goes. Guess what, the song today is actually the demo!
