Nursing Mother And Husband Facing The Law For Assaulting 13-Year-Old Girl

A couple, Mr Francis Onyeji and his wife, Chibuzor, are facing the law for allegedly sexually abusing and inflicting severe injuries on a 13-year-old girl living with them.

Mrs Chibuzor Onyeji, was arrested by the police at Ekpan, Delta State over the weekend for allegedly causing bodily harm to the poor girl who is her elder sister’s daughter. It was gathered that the poor girl’s mother was Mrs. Onyeji’s guardian before her marriage to Francis.

Mrs. Onyeji reportedly burnt her niece, a JSS 2 student, on many parts of her body with a hot knife which she allegedly intentionally heated over the flames of a stove to disfigure her.

The incident occurred after the girl accused her classmates of stealing the money she brought to school. The school authorities out of curiosity sent a senior staff to follow her home to ascertain if the affected girl actually took money amounting to about N1,500 to school that morning.

On interrogation she confessed to her aunt Mr Onyeji sometimes gave her money after sleeping with her especially when he was off-duty, as he usually worked off-shore for a Warri-based engineering and construction company. The confession angered her aunt leading to her inflicting severe injuries on the girl.

The woman was arraigned at a magistrate court in Ekpan on Monday and subsequently granted bail by the court.

The Magistrate, Mrs Blesing Ideh, however granted the accused bail on compassionate ground as she is a nursing mother of  three month old baby with the sum of  #500,000 (Five Hundred  thousand naira) with surety in like sum, which include a landed property within the Magisterial District and which must be confirmed by court officials and that the acussed must be present in court at every sitting.

The Delta police command have begun a manhunt for the husband, Mr Francis Onyeji, who has since gone into hiding after the incident.

The case has been adjourned till July 21, 2015, when the victim would likely be reunited with her biological parents who are anxious to take a message home as the community elders at home were said to be eagerly waiting to see to the end.
