Woman Gives Birth To Baby Boy Without Knowing She Was Pregnant
Rachel Harvey thought she had a very bad tummy ache and was taken to the hospital but got a great surprise when she found out she was having a baby.
The Mirror reports:
Rachel Harvey from Rugeley, Staffordshire, was rushed to hospital with stomach pains that left her writhing in agony and she returned home with a beautiful little boy. The 24-year-old had been relaxing at home with her fiance Simon Fenney 38, on July 28 and went to bed early when she started to feel unwell. Around 3am the pain became unbearable she woke up Simon, called her dad and was rushed to Lichfield Hospital.
Rachel said: “I didn’t really think much of it but the pain was so intense, I’d never been in that much pain before. It just kept getting worse and worse I was very worried, I had no clue what was wrong with me. The thought I could be pregnant never crossed my mind there were no signs whatsoever, I was still having periods as normal.”
A nurse at Lichfield Hospital asked Rachel if she could be pregnant and she dismissed the idea but fearing she could be having a miscarriage, staff put her in an ambulance and rushed her over to Burton Hospital.
Rachel said: “When we got there they told me I was in labour but I didn’t really click what was happening. I was in too much pain to process it, now it’s started to sink in I’m a mum! I can’t stop staring at him, he’s such a perfect beautiful baby boy.”
Now six days old, little Joseph Robert Fenney’s miracle arrival has left his shell-shocked mum and dad in a state of disbelief but despite his unannounced arrival, they couldn’t be happier.
Rachel said: “We’d never really talked about children, but now he’s here we’re so happy. The whole thing has been such a blur but it’s been amazing. Our friends and family were so shocked when we told them, they just couldn’t believe it. Most people have nine months to get used to the idea of being a mum I haven’t had that, but it’s just about sunk in, I’m absolutely over the moon, he feels like a little miracle.”
Simon already has a daughter Ashleigh, 16, and 13-year-old Billy and they are all delighted with the new arrival.
Simon said: “He is so tiny and so cute, he’s just perfect. When we took Rachel into hospital we were worried sick she told me not to come and to go to work instead, but her dad said ‘no, something’s wrong, work can wait’. It just never crossed my mind she might be pregnant. The penny never dropped. As soon as she got to the hospital in Burton she was whisked away behind a curtain and I was told to get back there were a dozen or more staff crowded around her.
“I went to book her in and when I came back she had disappeared, and I started to panic then I heard screaming from another room. I went in and held her hand as she was screaming out in pain, she said ‘what the hell is happening?’ Then I twigged there was a midwife and she said ‘you’re having a baby!’ I picked my jaw up off the floor and ten minutes later he was in our arms.”
At 6lb 1oz, Joseph was a healthy weight and the midwife thinks he was around 38 weeks when he was born on July 29.
Simon said: “From the time we found out the emotions changed from shock, to panic and then as soon as he was in our arms there was just automatic love, there’s nothing else you can do. We’ll definitely tell him about it when he’s older he’s a miracle. I’ve had two children and you think you’d know the signs, but there was nothing. My other children are more or less grown up now and I didn’t really want to start again but now Joseph’s come along I couldn’t be happier. Everyone has been absolutely amazing obviously we didn’t have anything prepared but by the time we got home everything we needed was there. Everyone was completely shocked when they found out and they thought I was joking at first! Everyone loves him already though, he’s been very spoilt! I’m still trying to find the words to describe it, but I don’t think there are any. We haven’t stopped smiling for the last six days, we’re still on cloud nine.”
