‘Miracle Babies’ For Mum Who Was Told She Could No Longer Have Babies

A woman who was told by doctors that she had a narrow chance of ever being a mum after suffering an ectopic pregnancy which almost led to her death tells a different story a few years later.

The former beauty queen, Nicola Creen recounts her story as reported by the Mirror.

When 34 year-old Nicole suffered an ectopic pregnancy and almost bled to death in 2001, she was told by doctors that she had a very slim chance of getting pregnant again. The news that she may never be a mum left Nicole shattered.

Recounting her experience, Nicola said: “I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. I was on the pill and it never entered my head that I might be expecting. After antenatal checks, I was rushed to theatre. I remember thinking this must be a big deal as all the medical staff looked panicked and there was loads of them. I was on a table and the doctor said, ‘I’m going to put you to sleep now.’ I said, ‘Am I going to die?’ And he said, ‘I promise to do everything I can so that doesn’t happen.’ All I remember is waking up to be told I’d had an ectopic pregnancy, I lost one of my fallopian tubes and lost my baby.

“My family were distraught – they were told I might not pull through. I lost seven pints of blood and had to have a blood transfusion. When the surgeon came to see me, I thanked him for saving my life. Then he told me it would be very difficult for me to conceive.”

Six years later after her devastating experience, Nicole found out she was pregnant and was overjoyed when she gave birth to a healthy baby boy Arron in 2007. She was in for another surprise when she found out she was having a daughter this year and welcomed Alaya on July 17.

Speaking on both births, she said: After a few painful years, I met Arron’s dad and after a while discovered I was pregnant. I was overjoyed and terrified at the same time.

“Doctors were amazed but I was put under the care of a consultant as there was a high risk of another ectopic pregnancy. I didn’t relax for a minute until he was here. Arron, who is now eight, arrived naturally with no problems. He is the most precious, wonderful, well-mannered, loving son and I’m so proud to call myself his mum.”

On two months old Alaya, She said: “It was a horrific labour. When Alaya was born, her temperature was too low and her heartbeat was too fast and they had to put her in an incubator. I was beside myself as it brought all my bad memories rushing back. But after a week in hospital, she was discharged. She was given the all-clear at her six-week check.”

The former Miss Scotland Caledonia revealed her joy and hopes her experience will encourage other women who have been told they will not have children

She said: “I’m the luckiest mum in the world. They are my two little miracles. Everyone was convinced I would never have kids, especially me. For years, my heart broke every time I saw a baby in a pram or heard a little one cry.

It took me a long time to convince myself I was pregnant with Arron and, as for Alaya, she is just the icing on the cake and completes my world. I hope my story will help give hope to other women who have been told they might not have children. Sometimes the impossible is possible if you keep the hope alive. By rights, I shouldn’t even be here. I’ve been given more than my fair share of second chances and am determined to be the best mum I can be.”
