Brother & Dad Give Premature Twins Life Saving Skin-to-Skin Therapy
A proud dad and big brother snuggled with some newborns as part of a “revolutionary” practice meant to regulate a baby’s body temperature and help them breathe better.
An amazing photo of a big brother helping his dad take care of the family’s premature twins has set social media on fire. The adorable photo shows the father and cute son laid out next to each other, with a baby each snuggled on their chests, Mirror reports.
The incredible photo was shared last year on Danish family advocacy group Forældre og Fødsel, but it went viral last week after South African-based Facebook page NINO Birth reposted the photo .
The two groups advocate the use of skin-to-skin therapy for prematurely born babies and state this is a better practice than placing them in an incubator, adding that placing the baby on their parents’ chests regulates body temperature better than an incubator and helps the baby breathe better.
It is also stated that exposure to the parent’s bacterial flora – compared with hospital bacteria – reduces the risk of serious infections in the vulnerable babies.
