Mother Of Two Arrested On Suspicions Of Murder After Losing Pregnancy

Lauren Bull, a 30-year-old UK mother of two, who was arrested on suspicion of murder after suffering a miscarriage in her 31st week of pregnancy, has made plans to seek legal action against the police, Daily Mail reports.

According to the grief-stricken mother, she was oblivious to the fact that she was 31 weeks pregnant when she suffered a miscarriage at her home in Braintree, Essex, UK, in November last year.

After waking up in a pool of blood, she was rushed to a hospital with a collapsed womb and was immediately operated upon. But she and her 28-year-old partner, Jack Walker, were arrested on suspicion of murder hours after the surgery.

The couple spent at least 34 hours behind bars at Chelmsford police station and it was not until a post-mortem confirmed a still birth that officers dropped the murder probe, according to reports.

Still, sources say, it took the police seven months to investigate claims that the couple had concealed a body and only dropped the case two weeks ago.

Bull told The Sun, “I can’t forgive the police for the way they treated me. They tried to tell Jack I had been having an affair and he had tried to kill the baby when he found out it wasn’t his.”

The UK mother further affirmed that she was “treated like a killer” and said officers showed “no humanity” towards her. She added that the allegations were “lies” and she was now planning to pursue legal action against the police.

Bull did not suspect that she was pregnant since she had no bump, no cravings and continued to have periods, although she had suffered stomach cramps and flu-like symptoms three days to her miscarriage. She was, thus, stunned when medics informed her that she had miscarried and was suffering a collapsed womb.

In order not to worry their children, the couple cleaned their blood soaked toilet before going to the hospital. According to her partner, they did not see the 5cm foetus when they cleaned.

Bull said, “There was a lot of blood on the floor and I didn’t want the kids to see.”

Medics told police they could not find the tragic baby and ten police officers later stormed their Essex home before making the arrest.

The mother said, “Before all of this we had talked about a third child. It was something we always considered but now I never want to be pregnant again. The police have stolen that joy from us.”

An Essex Police spokesman said, “Recent cases have highlighted the need for police to thoroughly investigate any harm to a child, especially when they die.

“The body of this poor baby was found in unusual circumstances. The death of any child is tragic and when the circumstances of a child’s death are unusual and unexplained then we have a duty to thoroughly investigate.

He continued, “This is to provide answers to the family and the public, minimise the risk of any future harm to a child and to ensure that the rights of the deceased child are upheld.

“There was a full multi-agency response to this distressing event to ensure there was the necessary support to all of those involved and affected by this tragedy.”
