Monstrous! See Why a Nigerian Family Fed a Day-Old Baby To Dog

Katsina State policemen have arrested a family of five for allegedly feeding a day-old baby boy to a dog in Saika village in the Batsari Local Government Area of the state.

According to Punch, the suspects were identified as Wosila Halilu (15); Wosila’s step brothers, Muhammadu Bello (45), Musa Bello (35), Umar Bello (27); and her mother, Faiza Umar (30).

Punch reporters learnt that a 27-year-old farmer, Musa Garba, alleged to have raped and impregnated Wosila, was also arrested for raping her.

The teenage mother reportedly told the police and the family that the farmer lured her to his farm and allegedly raped her.

Since she was unmarried, the family viewed the teenager’s pregnancy and subsequent delivery of the baby boy as shameful, sources say.

Punch reports that it was when Wosila’s mother and stepbrothers held a meeting that the family decided to feed the baby boy as a meal to a dog.

The incident was reported to the police by the village head of Saika, known as Dakacin Seika, and it led to the arrest of the family members and the farmer.

They were arraigned before a Katsina Magistrate’s Court on three counts bordering on culpable homicide, criminal conspiracy and rape.

According to police sources, the offences contravened sections 235, 387 and 85 of the Penal code.

The presiding magistrate, Nura Ladan, ordered further investigation into the incident and directed that the suspects be remanded in police custody.

The case was thereafter adjourned till August 8, 2016.
