So Sad! Why Vibrant Bank Executive & Dad-of-2 Shot Himself
The members of staff of First City Monument Bank (FCMB), have been thrown into great sadness as one of their executives, Mr Olisa Nwokobi, on Friday evening shot himself dead in the presence of his Priest for alleged fraud.
According to reports from Daily Sun, the 44-year-old bank manager and graduate of Abia State University, committed suicide because he was under pressure from his bank over a huge amount of money he allegedly approved. Meanwhile, other sources say the funds were diverted into personal accounts.
The father of a 10-year-old daughter had reportedly gone to his priest at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church, Northern Foresore Estate, Lekki, Lagos and complained bitterly of how he approved a loan for a customer who had refused to service the loan adding that he would not stand the shame and disgrace of being dragged by the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC).
Fear over his integrity and the name of his family, which could be dented if his bank commences action against him over the loan, the vibrant banker then resolved into shooting himself.
”He told our father to help him beg his wife and his 10-year-old daughter to forgive him. As the priest was trying to advice him, he brought out a pistol and shot himself. He died instantly.
”The church was in confusion the Rev Father could not believe his eyes. We are still confused. I think he said the loan was about N350 million.
”The Police visited the church, took photographs and interviewed the priest. He shot himself. He was not killed by armed robbers. We loved him because he was an active member of the church. We know him very well. He was from Nkwelle Ezunaka, Oyi Local Government area of Anambra state.
”His father was also a former chairman of First bank plc,” a source at the church stated.
Another church member, Hilary who corroborated the story said: “I think he was under a spell by someone who borrowed money from the bank and refused to service it. I think the man cashed in on the fact that the loan was illegal and refused to service it. He should be arrested”
Lagos state Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Dolapo Badmos, who confirmed the story said: “Yes, at about 9:45 am Olisa Nwakobi, of house number 11, Aladdin close, Chevron Drive, Lekki allegedly shot himself in the head with a pistol. He shot himself in front of Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church Northern Foresore Estate.
“A team of policemen attached to the Ilasan Division visited the scene. An American pistol with five round of un-expended ammunition was found.”
She said the corpse has been deposited at the Lagos Island morgue for autopsy.
However, speaking with the bank spokesman, Mr Diran Olojo, who debunked the story going round that the deceased killed himself because of pressure from the bank over loan.
According to him, the bank has nothing to do with what happened.
“It is possible that he had personal financial issues which nobody could understand now. ”
So sad…….RIP
This country is burning o
He did it the American way which says “death before dishonor”. I don’t think killing himself was a better option.
Na woa
People are laundering better money and are bold to face the consequences. Suicide still remains a coward and selfish way of facing life’s obstacles
How do you want your little daughter to forgive you, living with the fact that her mentor killed himself? This is a stupid act to say the least, if you know your hands are clean, why did you end your life over money that someone else is enjoying?
so sad.suicide wasnt an option
So sad.. he shouldn’t have killed himself.
But it’s quite unfortunate, how Lagos “big boys” on magazines but serial debtors don’t have conscience… They take crazy loans for extravagant lifestyles without intention for paying back…… RIP to this man…., it’s unfortunate
