Mum Of Abducted Chibok Girl Identifies Daughter In New Boko Haram Video

On Sunday, the Boko Haram terrorists group released a new video which confirmed that some of the kidnapped Chibok girls are still alive.

The video shows a Boko Haram militant flanked by some young girls dressed in headscarves demanding the release of fighters in exchange for the girls, the CNN reports.

“They should know that their children are still in our hands,” said a man whose face was covered by a turban in the video posted on YouTube. He claims that five of the Chibok girls were killed during Nigerian airstrikes on one of the group’s compound.

During the nearly 12-minute video, the militant conducts a staged interview with one of the kidnapped girls who identifies herself as Maida Dorcas Yakubu, wearing a faded black abaya and patterned headscarf.

The 18-year-old looks down as a camouflage-clad militant armed with a gun instructs her to speak. She urged their parents to press the Nigerian government to free terrorist fighters in their custody in exchange for their release.

“What I can say is that our parents should take heart,” she says in the Kabaku language. Talk to the government so that we can be allowed to go home”.

Maida’s mum, Esther Yakubu was in tears as she watched the video during the sit-out of the Bring Back Our Girls, BBOG, in Abuja.

“Seeing my baby standing with a terrorist with ammunition around his neck is not easy for a mother,” says Esther. But I also give thanks to God almighty. They say most of the girls are dead but mine is alive.”

“I promised her that I will try my utmost best to see that she makes her first and second degree,” Maida’s mum says.

“Unfortunately … she has not graduated from secondary school. Not only that she’s nowhere to be found.”

Information gathered claims that at least 16 of the Chibok girls’ parents have died since their daughters have been in captivity. But Maida’s family says its unwavering Christian belief has kept them going through the darkest times adding that they pray together every morning and every midnight that their daughter will make it home safely.
The video, though disturbing, has given them fresh hope that Maida will soon be freed.
“I’m very, very happy,” says Yakubu, Maida’s father, having seen the video. Because as long as she’s alive, we will see her one day.”
