Delta State University Dismisses 6 Lecturers For Sexually Harassing Female Students
Six lecturers of the Delta State University, DELSU, Abraka, have been sacked by the school authorities over sexual harassment of female students. Their sack came after a disciplinary committee was set up to investigate the allegations levelled against them.
Punch learnt that the University Governing Council at its 97th regular meeting, held during the weekend, recommended their dismissal, having found them culpable of several offences including sexual harassment of female students.
Reports also revealed that the sacked lecturers were also involved in financial extortion for marks, leaking of examination questions and other corrupt offences.

Eddy Agbure, the Public Relations Officer of the institution, confirmed the development in a statement, noting that while six were dismissed, four others were demoted and received various queries for gross misconducts.
The statement read in part:
“This is to inform staff, students and other members of the University community that the under listed staff (names withheld) were disciplined by the University Governing Council for various offences at its 97th regular meeting held on Friday, 12th August, 2016.
Other lecturers who are in the habit of abusing their position of authority have been warned to desist from such anti-official activities capable of bringing the university to disrepute.
The Vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Victor Peretomode stressed that henceforth, any lecturer found wanting will face the penalty of sack without benefit.”
