5 Reasons Your Toddler Won’t Nap
Toddlers are probably one of God’s cutest creations, when they aren’t making a fuss that can send you over board.
Nap time or sleep time, can be one of those periods, when your toddler, might not be as cute as you want them to be.
There might be some things that you are permitting or overlooking that makes your toddler stay up unnecessarily:
1. They might be too tired to sleep
For adults, sometimes it may be difficult to fall asleep immediately if one is too tired. It is the same for toddlers too. The human body releases hormones to fight fatigue and stay awake as a defense mechanism. By allowing your child to engage in hyper activities, you may think this will tire them out, but this is not the case all the time. You just might might be preparing their body to release those hormones that will help them fight off that feeling of fatigue.
2. They have consumed too much sugar
“One piece of candy might not harm him or her” that is what you may be thinking. Because they were crying uncontrollably, you thought it may be a good idea to to shut them up by letting him indulge in a few pieces of candy shortly before their bedtime. Are you still wondering why they wont sleep? Lol
3. They may not know how to nap
Sleeping comes easy for some people and not so easy for some. Again, the same goes for toddlers. In a case like this, you might have to take extra measures to get your toddler to listen to sleep inducing rhymes or songs, and also create an environment that is conducive for sleep. You can do this by placing sleep-friendly toys or ornaments in their room.
4. They might be hungry
Being strict about a food pattern or food portion size for your children is very important, as this helps them to develop a particular eating pattern that their bodies can get used to. However, parents need to be very watchful, because toddlers may have trouble because they are actually too hungry to sleep.
5. They’re experiencing separation anxiety
Your toddlers are probably at a stage where they are becoming aware of the fact that you aren’t always going to be around them. Nap time is one of those times, when your toddlers fear that anxiety the most. The key is to try to give comfort without picking them up, they in turn can get used to spending a bit of time without being in your arms. Try to soothe your little ones by singing soothing nursery rhymes, watching over them while they are in a relaxed mood, and reassuring them firmly and gently.
