Police Commence Investigation into Ikorodu Tragedy that Left Several Dead & Others Abducted
The location of two-year-old, Faridah, is still unknown, as three days ago she was abducted by some gunmen and her mother killed at the Asolo bus stop on Ikorodu Road, Lagos, read here.
Punch Metro has also learnt that they were not the only victims affected by the culprits that day, two other persons were killed, while several victims were abducted by the bandits.
Sources also learnt that the gang had invaded the bus stop at about 8 PM on Friday, shooting randomly and robbing people held up in the traffic on Ikorodu Road. The late mother was trying to flee the scene when she was shot and her daughter abducted.
A resident of the area, who pleaded anonymity, said that a kid and two persons, who live in Ikorodu, were also abducted.
“It was after the robbers had left that policemen arrived. There is a military base in Majidun, but nobody came to confront the hoodlums during the operation. I was indoors, glued to my bed while the operation lasted. It was very serious.” He lamented
An elder of the community, who also did not want to be named, said that not much had been done by the security agents in the community or the police, adding that this was not the first time such an incident would occur.
“I am aware that people died. This is not the first time such a thing would happen. One happened about three weeks ago. There should be a 24-hour patrol on the road and in communities in Ikorodu. The militants are regrouping again. The creeks, where they hide, need to be constantly patrolled by the Nigerian Navy,” he said.
During a press briefing on Monday, police vowed to work hand in hand in the future with security agents to increase the level of security in the area on waterways and creeks. He also urged the families of the people missing or killed to report the case to the nearest police station, that the police cannot act if the do not have any information at all.
