Hollywood Actress Lily Collins, Pens Emotional Letter To Her Father Phil Collins Forgiving Him For Not Being The Father She Wanted
Hollywood actress Lily Collins and daughter of rock-star legend, Phil Collins, wrote an emotional letter to him in a collection of personal essays, forgiving him for not being the father she expected and wanted.
Dailymail reports that the 27-year-old actress, who recently received a Golden Globe nomination for her role in Warren Beatty’s Rules Don’t Apply, tells a lot more than her father’s disappointment. She spoke about her struggle with anorexia and bulimia, and growing up without her father.
‘I forgive you for not always being there when I needed and for not being the dad I expected. I forgive the mistakes you made. And although it may seem like it’s too late, it’s not. There’s still so much time to move forward. We all make choices and, although I don’t excuse some of yours, at the end of the day we can’t rewrite the past. I’m learning how to accept your actions and vocalise how they made me feel. I accept and honour the sadness and anger I felt toward the things you did or didn’t do, did or didn’t give me.’
Phill Collins, 66, has 5 children by 3 wives, Lily is the only child from his second marriage Jill Tavelman. She was five years old when her parents got divorced, and she had to live away from her father for the next 20 years, only seeing him during school holidays.
Lily describes the disconnection that grew between her and her father as she got older, living on a different continent from him, as the root of her many insecurities and depressions. She is also willing to put the past behind her and work through it all with her father.
