Five Year Old Boy Dies in Fire Accident Due to Father’s Negligence
Grief has struck the Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area of Edo State, as a five year old boy is said to have been burned to death due to his dad’s negligence.
Punch reports that the victim and his younger brother, who was left in the care of their father, were locked in their one bedroom apartment when the fire broke out. Their father had lit the stove, locked the boys in and went to buy something when the fire broke out. Neighbors watched helplessly as the victim cried for help in vain until he died.
It was reported by a neighbor that passers-by managed to break one of the windows and pulled the younger boy out who was rushed to the hospital immediately for treatment, but the ferocity of the fire became to strong and nothing could be done to help the other boy.
“The mother of the kids went out, but their father was around. He went out to buy something and locked them inside. Before he could return, the fire had already engulfed the building. One of the children was rescued, but the other was burnt beyond recognition,” said a source.
Osamudiamen Edobor, a resident of the area expressed his sadness as he told reporters that the family also kept a generator in the same room where the stove was.
