Good News! 9 Months-old Baby Who Went Missing after Mum ‘Borrowed’ him to a Neighbour Has Been Found (Update)
The 9-month-old baby who went missing for one week after his 25-year-old mother, Abongile Nojahi, “borrowed” him to her neighbour (read here), has been found and reunited with his mother.
The incident happened in Mt. Moriah in Phoenix, South Africa.
You will recall that, on Saturday June 3, the baby, Olwethu Gift Nojahi was reported missing following the failure of his mother’s neighbour/friend, Zanele Mchunu, to return him home after the latter had gone to a shopping mall with him.
She was later found by police hiding in Amaoti, Inanda, News24 reports.
According to information gathered, it was alleged that Abongile’s 17-year-old neighbour was in the habit of coming around to “borrow” the baby for outings.
Due to their relationship and closeness, Abongile said she felt comfortable leaving her son with Mchunu‚ and did not find the request strange or had any reason to suspect that she would make such a move.
The happy mum said:
“I’m happy that my baby has been found; that’s what matters the most. I have no problem with what she did and I would definitely forgive her, since I do not even know the reason why she disappeared with the baby. The baby is back with me now,”
Confirming the good news, Police spokesperson, Captain Nqobile Gwala, said the baby was found alive on Sunday, June 11.
“The baby was first taken to a place of safety after he was found. The suspect was arrested and charged for kidnapping after she was traced to her hideout.
“She appeared in the Verulam Magistrate’s Court on Monday and court appearance results are unknown at this stage,” Gwala said.
