“Our mum didn’t experience domestic violence,” -Children of Late Ranti Daudu Open Up in a Statement
News went viral last week that Ranti Daudu, wife of a former President of the Nigerian Bar Association, Joseph Bodunrin Daudu (SAN), died and revealed what may have led to her untimely death.
Meanwhile, former Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission, Chidi Odinkalu, and co-convener of the BringBackOurGirls, Aisha Yesufu, on their social media pages disclosed that Ranti, who died on Thursday, endured 28 years of vicious domestic violence from her husband (read here).
Yesufu, also revealed that Ranti disclosed to her in their last conversation that even her children had told her to leave the marriage, due to incessant abuse.
However, in a statement sent to Punch, the deceased children debunked the reports. Two of the six children, Paul and Benedict, who signed the statement on behalf of the six of them, said the comments of the two activists on social media suggesting that their mother was a victim of domestic violence, were false.
Although they said the marriage between their father and mother had its ups and downs, it never degenerated to a level where their mother had to suffer domestic violence in the hands of their father.
They also threatened to take all necessary actions against those who published “defamatory remarks” aimed at trashing their family name.
”We categorically debunk such fallacious rumours which are to the effect that our dear mother died as a result of years of being subject to domestic violence for a period of 28 years are published by several blogs and social media outlets.
We reiterate to the contrary that we all grew up in a loving environment where we first hand witnessed the affection of both of our parents.
We are not unmindful that as with any marriage of 33 years, our parents’ marriage had its ups and down. However, this never ever at any point whatsoever disintegrated into any form of domestic violence,” they said.

She was said to have fallen ill on Wednesday and died of heart attack on Thursday, the day she was scheduled to appear in court to give oral evidence in respect of the divorce suit.
Hmmmmm see the cause of death and yet the kids are saying this? Ok oh, they should keep shielding their father.
When the evidence is in black and white?
Could it be dey contributed in de abuse too? Hmmm!

It’s very obvious they are trying to protect the family name. They don’t want to wash their dirty linen in public. The woman had heart attack the day her divorce case was to come up, that showed she was highly tramautised
