8 Foods To Keep You Healthy And Happy Down There

Ineh Olisah

Did you know that the foods you eat can affect your vagina’s natural PH balance and a host of healthy bacteria designed to ward off infections? Apart from warding off infection, Mary Rosser, M.D., Ph.D., ob-gyn at Montefiore Medical Centre, New York says the foods you eat can also change the way your nether region smells and even tastes. Find a list of foods that will keep your veejay happy and healthy below….

Sweet Potatoes. These little gems are full of vitamin A, which keeps our vaginal and uterine walls healthy (how sexy does that sound?). Vitamin A also helps generate sex hormones, so these root veggies keep our girly bits both healthy and energetic.

Water. Everyday Health says water helps all functions of your body run more smoothly, especially where muscles and bodily fluids are concerned. Mucous membranes (found in places such as your eyes, mouth, and vagina) rely on a well-hydrated body to function properly. Drinking the correct amount of water — eight glasses a day — not only aids in natural lubrication but could also create a milder vaginal scent and taste.

Dark leafy greens. Feeling a little dry down there? Dark leafy greens are naturally blood-purifying, which means they enhance circulation, which in turn speeds up stimulation, so says

Nuts and seeds. Seeds and nuts are high in vitamin E, which prevents dryness of the vagina, as well as oils. Almonds and pumpkin seeds are high in zinc, which helps combat itching and regulates the menstrual cycle.

Garlic. If you need a good reason to eat garlic, here’s one. Garlic has antimicrobial and antifungal properties. You can eat it raw, cooked, or take it in pill form. It’s good for getting rid of yeast infections too.

Bananas. Sweet and delicious, bananas are also a good source of Vitamin B6 and C as well as manganese, potassium, biotin and copper. It is also known for its ability to enhance one’s mood.

Vitamins. Vitamin E helps skin conditions in general and, according to The Healthier Life website, helps prevent vaginal dryness. Foods rich in vitamin E include wheat germ, sunflower seeds, almonds, walnuts and hazelnuts, as well as the oils derived from these foods. It also can’t hurt to keep up your levels of vitamin C, which is a general immune system booster, The Healthier Life states. Citrus fruits, strawberries, kiwi, green and red peppers and, surprisingly, broccoli are all rich in C.
