Lamar Odom Opens up about ‘Dark Period’, Regrets and Ex-Wife Khloe Kardashian
Lamar Odom has opened up on the dark period of his life when he was addicted to cocaine. On Thursday, The Players’ Tribune published an interview and accompanying video in which NBA star shared secrets about the drug habit that led to his 2015 overdose and resulting coma.
The father of two, confessed his ex-wife ,Khloe Kardashian had once walked in on him doing drugs with another woman. He revealed that at a point in his life all he did was cocaine, especially every second of his free time. He revealed the drug-fueled pattern he fell into, adding infidelity was also prominent.
“At that point in my life, I was doing coke every day. Pretty much every second of free time that I had, I was doing coke. I couldn’t control it. I didn’t want to control it.”
One of the darkest places I’ve ever been was when I was in a motel room, getting high with this chick, and my wife (at the time) walked in. My dick and my habit took me down all the roads that you don’t ever wanna go down.”
The Los Angeles Lakers player also described how heavily he abused cocaine. He said at first when he started drugs, he promised him self that he would never get back to it. Little did he know that taking it in the first place was his biggest mistake as there was no going back.
“It will make you do things you never thought you’d do. It will turn you into a different person. It will put you in situations where you say to yourself, “How the f*** did I get here?.”
The New York native ended up at Sunrise Hospital in Las Vegas after the alarming incident. Almost two years after his near-death experience, the 37-year-old described waking up from a four-day coma in a hospital bed, with tubes sticking out of led to his 2015 overdose and resulting coma.
While Lamar admitted to initially using coke to numb the pain of losing loved ones, he explained he wasn’t doing drugs on a daily basis until the death of his infant son Jayden. In 2006, the six-month-old passed away from sudden infant death syndrome.
In the wake of his nearly fatal overdose, Lamar explained that his surviving children, Destiny and Lamar Jnr. are the only things that kept him going. Once the ailing athlete had regained his ability to talk, his daughter inspired him to go to rehab under the threat of cutting off communication.
The Dallas Mavericks alum explained that he’s currently clean, but is still facing constant urges. He revealed that he regrets all his decisions in the past from the time he lost his mother to cancer till date but he can only pray for life’s favorable condition.

‘I’m sober now. But it’s an everyday struggle. I have an addiction. I’ll always have an addiction. It never goes away. I mean, I want to get high right now. But I know that I can’t if I want to be here for my children.’
He reflected fondly on the people he’s lost, and those who are still around. He said they are like a reminder of what life is supposed to be about. It gets him through each day making him feel warm. Lamar finalized his divorce from Khloe in December 2016. It does not appear that they are friends.
It takes only the grace of God to remain sober as an addict.
I hope he’s done with drugs now for good.
