Dear MIMsters: Why I Left My Husband A Few Weeks After Giving Birth
Hubby and I moved to his parent’s place before I gave birth since we could no longer afford to pay our rents. Hubby was broke, we had no jobs, and I was already in my third trimester.
I gave birth early this year, and 24 hours after I gave birth, hubby asked me to wash my hospital clothes because his mom will not be happy if she sees them. So I did.
MIL sees fault in everything I do. The day she takes offence with me, she will won’t help to bath or press my body etc. Hubby said nothing, even when I fell ill.
Two weeks after I delivered, hubby and his family went for a function. I was in the sitting room with my baby when they returned. First, hubby and his siblings came in and we exchanged greetings but I didn’t know when his parents passed as I was chatting with hubby.
Heaven knows I didn’t deliberately ignore them.
Next, I heard my MIL’s voice complaining to her daughter about me. She said, “my son didn’t properly check her background before marriage.
Her daughter replied, “Mom, she is hearing you o.
She replied, “and so, let her hear nah.”
Later, I apologised to my FIL on my knees when he came out.When hubby returned, I explained to him and told him to please help me handle the issue and didn’t do it deliberately.
That night, hubby’s parent called him to their room (i guess to talk about me) because when hubby came to the room later, he started shouting at me, insulting me.
He said “is it because you gave birth to a girl, you now think you have a leg in my family? Do you now think you have a stand in this marriage?”
He then warned me to take whatever what happens from now on like that. My FIL even said he regrets been a part of our marriage.
I couldn’t sleep that night. From that day on, hubby and MIL started keeping malice with me.
I’m always there to attend to her when she wants to bath my baby but if she needs anything, instead of asking me, she’ll call her daughter from another room to attend to her. She refused giving me a bath.
After dressing up my baby, she will either hand her over to hubby or leave her on the bed while I’m there. These and other things she’s been doing like lying against me in the presence of own family and my hubby.
Hubby knew she was lying but he said noting.
I couldn’t’ bear the whole thing anymore because all I could do was think and cry. I had to leave the house and went to my parent’s place.
Now, the issue has escalated to a family issue and I don’t know what to do right now. Should I go back there just like that or? ‘s shattered, hurt and disappointed. What do you advise me to do?
My dear sister, since ur parents are not complaining, I will kindly suggest u stay with ur parents until ur husband get man enough to find something doing, or better still look for at least a one room apartment where u can live with ur baby with rest of mind. Some In-laws shaa
Go back where? Stay put where you are. Even if your parents chase you do not move an inch until that baby you call a husband grows up and knows the difference between a wife and a mother.
