New Update on Teacher Who Stabbed Husband to Death in Ikorodu: Do You Think She Should Be Jailed?
24-year-old Olamide Akinbola, who made headlines last week after stabbing her husband to death (read here), has been remanded in Kirikiri Prisons on the orders of an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court, Daily Post reports.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs O.A. Komolafe, ordered that the accused, who is a schoolteacher and mother of two should remain behind bars pending advice from the State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
The magistrate directed that the case file should be duplicated and a copy forwarded to the DPP for advice.
The prosecutor, Sgt. Kehinde Omisakin had earlier told the court that the accused stabbed her husband, Dare Akinbobola, 28, on his neck to death with a kitchen knife.
The offence contravened Section 233 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised). The case has been adjourned until July 12.
According to sources, the sad incident occurred early on Wednesday, May 30, 2018, at the couple’s home in Ikorodu. During interrogation last week, Olamide claimed she didn’t kill her husband intentionally.
She narrated that her husband had a habit of beating her and he was at it again that morning when she picked a knife to scare him off, then mistakenly stabbed him with it.
According to her, neighbors are aware that she suffers domestic violence in the hands of her husband.
She also claimed her family had told her to divorce the man after she ran back home following one particularly violent incident, but she chose to stay with him because they have two kids and he is the husband of her youth.

”I didn’t kill him intentionally. He was always battering me. Today, he pinned me down and started beating me again. I picked the knife to scare him, but I mistakenly stabbed him. I couldn’t have killed my husband intentionally.
In the past, I used to run out of the house when being beaten, but today, he locked everywhere to prevent my escape.
My family had told me to divorce him but I didn’t want to, because he is the husband of my youth and we already have two children together. You can ask around, everyone knows he beats me always.”
This is clearly self defense. He could have killed her. She shouldn’t be jailed please.
This is why it is better to leave a violent spouse than stay and be killed or even kill him/her.
