Desperate Housewives Actress And New Mom-Of-1, Eva Longoria Gets Real About Motherhood And It Is Applaudable
Being a new mom comes with its attendant joy and worries, but a commendation is recommended when you find a new mom who takes both the joy and challenges in her stride, refusing to bow to the pressure of unrealistic expectations of the society of her as a mom, particularly when she is in the eye of the world like Eva Longoria is.
Even though Eva Longoria gave birth to her first child less than two months ago, the 43-year-old actress already feels like a natural!
Eva Jacqueline Longoria Bastón, an American actress, producer, director, activist and businesswoman who is popularly known for her role in the American comedy-drama, “Desperate Housewives” talked about her new life with her baby, Santiago Enrique and about her returning to work in an interview with Entertainment Tonight on Saturday.
When asked if she was struggling with self-doubt typical of new parents, she responded:
“No … When people go, “Your mother instincts kick in!” that’s true.”
She stated further:
“Kerry Washington‘s basically my doula,” Longoria added. “I just have this amazing community of women around me that have really helped me transition into motherhood, and I think you need that.”
Longoria also shared that the best advice Washington — mother to son, Caleb Kelechi, 22 months, and 4-year-old daughter, Isabelle Amarachi — has given her is “to follow your own instincts. I have a baby nurse, I have my mom, I’ve got my mother-in-law and she’s like, ‘You have the best instincts.’ ”

The star actress also delved into her biggest challenges now that she’s back to work after almost two months of being with her son “day and night,” which she termed as “the best seven weeks of my life,” she told ET.
First, she found herself wondering how to “ease back into work” after baby.
“As I start returning back to work slowly, [I’m asking], ‘How do you balance it all?’ ” Longoria explained. “Everybody used to [ask] me, ‘How do you do it all? You do so many things.’ And I was just like, ‘Because I don’t have kids.’ Every project was my baby and now I actually have a baby.”
Speaking of another challenge she’s dealt with, Eva recalled the first time she brought her baby on set and he didn’t recognize her with all the hair and makeup.
The first time she breastfed Santiago after she’d been glammed up, she joked to Extra,
“He was looking at me like, ‘Who are you, where’s my mom?’ and I was like, ‘This is how Mommy really looks, sweetheart.’ ”

Longoria attended the premiere of her new flick, “Dog Days” on Sunday, August 5 in Century City, California with her hubby, Jose Baston, 50, by her side for the event. The new mom was radiant wearing an ivory dress but the actress admitted she was missing her new main squeeze: her 6-week old son.
”I’ve been with him 24/7 since he was born. Being here at work, that’s probably the most difficult thing. Leaving him for four hours. I’m like, ‘What?!’,” she admitted.

Even though the actress was at a work event, she wasn’t off mom duty. She revealed she’s still on the clock,
“I’ll be taking a break out of the movie to go and pump. He’s at home with his baby nurse, but, yeah, I’m going to be running back to him tonight!”

Longoria showered encomium on her hubby’s daddy skills. Baston has been around the block once or twice when it comes to babies, he is already a father to his four kids Natalia, 23, Mariana, 15, and twins Sebastian and Jose, 15 with his ex-wife, Natalia Esperon.
”He’s amazing. My husband’s been so amazing. And he’s just been — I mean, I don’t know how to do this alone,” gushed the new mom.
“I’ve been so grateful that I have an amazing partner who supports me emotionally, taking the baby, helping with the baby, giving the baby a bath. I mean, you need this partnership. It takes a village.”
Talking about the pressure of Hollywood’s unrealistic expectations of her to bounce back so shortly after giving birth, the actress admits that she is being kind to herself by being realistic about what her body still needs to do, for her newborn son.
“I am very grateful and thankful for my body for making this amazing human being. So immediately putting it through the ringer to get back into shape is not a priority.
Every time I breastfeed, I say ‘thank you’ to my boobs. I’m like, ‘Thank you for giving me a child! Thank you, boobs, thank you, body, for doing all of this for my son.’”
