Why “My Dad Calls Me A Whore…” Twitter User, Wanny, Tells The World What’s Eating Her Up
The ongoing “O jewa ke eng ?” literally, “What is eating you up?” challenge on Twitter has revealed that there are many hurting children all around us, and it is worrisome that the very people who have hitherto hurt these young ones are the very ones whose words they hold in high esteem.
As parents, we must understand that words are powerful and realize that our children fight battles outside the homes, hence the home should give them comfort and not otherwise.
Lack of love and comfort at home has driven many children into wrong relationships since what they are served at home is devoid of it. As such, at the first glimpse of what seems like love to them, they would latch on without holding back.
More so, hurting words from parents to their children makes them bitter, hateful and rebellious. Only a few of them attempt to prove they are more than they are being called; majority sign out and do much more than have been said about them, after all; what would their gains be in proving you wrong!
Thanks to Twitter for giving them a stage to tell their stories and hopefully, get their healing in order to move forward.
Joining the challenge is a young female lawyer who chose to call herself ‘Arrogant Wanny’ on Twitter. According to Wanny, her father called her a whore because she fixes artificial nails.
The effect of the name calling on the young woman is that she has resorted to avoiding her father since last year because she fears she might make him reap exactly what he has sown into her life.
Taking to Twitter, Wanny wrote:
“My Dad calls me a whore, here I am working so hard to be respected and relevant in the society and my Dad calls me a prostitute because I fix long nails. I’ve been avoiding him since last year because I’m scared I might say something hurtful to him.I can’t take it anymore….”
