Australian Returnee, Stephen Akpata, Who Killed His Wife Just One Month Into Their Marriage Condemned To Death By Hanging
The Federal High court in Yenogoa, Bayelsa state on Friday March 22nd sentenced 42 year old Ogho-Oghene Stephen Akpata to death by hanging for stabbing his wife of just one month, Oyinye Faustina Eze, to death at their home in the Kpansia area of Yenagoa in August 2017.
Faustina and Stephen, a returnee from Australia, met in February 2017 when he went for his Sim card registration at her office. The deceased was previously working at the Bonny Island branch of Globacom, before she was transferred to Yenogoa.
They started a friendship that blossomed into a romantic affair after their first meeting at her office, things moved on quickly, Stephen proposed and Faustina accepted to be his wife-to-be.
They got married in July after he dodged seeing her parents many times, and by August he had murdered her. She was about 4 months pregnant with their son.

The murder of Faustina made headlines in 2017, with her family insisting that justice must be served. Upon his arrest after the murder, Stephen alleged his wife was having an extramarital affair.
He has been on trial since then, but only last Friday did the court finally pass judgment and sentenced him to death by hanging.
