Health Minister, Dr. Osagie Ehanire Reveals Drug Used In Treatment Of COVID-19 Patients In Nigeria
Nigeria has been making some progress in its treatment of COVID-19 cases in the country. Only yesterday, 60 patients were discharged from different isolation centres in Lagos state after testing negative for the virus twice post quarantine and treatment.
While Dr Osagie Ehanire, Nigeria’s Minister of Health,had said he would not disclose the drug been used in the treatment of the COVID-19 in the country, he has now reviewed his stance and disclosed the drug.
Addressing members of the House of Representatives yesterday Tuesday May 5, Ehanire said Remdesivir is being used to treat patients with the virus.
The Minister said the drug which was originally developed as a potential treatment for Ebola, is one of the options which Nigeria has adopted for in treating COVID-19 patients.
Remdesivir was tested in 1,063 hospitalized Coronavirus patients around the world and has proven to reduce the time it takes patients to recover by 31%. 11 days on average versus 15 days for those just given usual care.
